Software-Repositories
Click the image above to watch the video tutorial.
Software Repositories give you the ability to add thousands of software applications and drivers to your system without scouring the internet to find the things you need or may want.
I will show you how to set up the repositories so you do not have use your DVD disk for system software, and how to add 2 additional repositories, one for software and one for Nvidia Drivers. For most people the Packman Repository should provide just about everything they might want.
1) Go to the Appliction Launcher (Menu) and go to the Computer tab, select the YAST (Administrator Settings), type your root pasword and click OK.
2) When YaST opens, on the right hand side click the "Software Repositories" icon.
3) In the list of choices click to highlight the "openSUSE-11.1-Source repository.
4) At the lower part of the window, check the "Enabled" box to enable the repository.
5) Then click on the Priority down arrow to change the priority of the source repository.
6)Now we can disable the DVD/CD.
Do this by clicking on "openSUSE 11.1-0 cd:///
At the lower part of the window, uncheck the "Enabled" box to stop the system from asking for the CD/DVD when installing software.
7) Now we can add our software repositories. At the bottom of the window click the Add button.
8) When the window opens, go to the top and select "Community Repositories" in the lower right hand corner of the window click the Next button.
9) The next window will show you a list of repositories, for now we are only conecerned with two of them.
10) Scroll down until you see the "Packman Repository" and check the box.
If you have an Nvida card, check the "NVIDIA Repository".
11) After chceking the repositories go to the lower right hand corner of the window and click OK.
12) Two windows will pop up asking you to accept the security keys for the repositories, accept the security keys by clicking the "Import" button. It will now download a list of software from the repositories.
YaST will automatically select the NVIDIA drivers for your computer, so close YaST, and reboot the computer.
Finally, this step probably isn't necessary, but if you would like to see if YaST did select the correct drivers for your card you can go into the Software Manager and search for nvidia, there should be two items preselected. It is beyond the scope of this tutorial to list the hundreds of cards NVIDIA makes, and which particular driver you will need.
