The content on this page is aimed at the new openSUSE Linux user. These are Flash animated tutorials. The files are large and if the site is busy they may take time to load, so please be patient. I apologize that the animations couldn't be a little more dial up user friendly.
If you are a dial up user, just be patient, "eventually" the videos will load.

Installing Source Files

Directions to install source files.

For instructions on installing the needed tools to compile applications from source please the list of software in the Installing Software Tutorial



A minimum of these files will be needed

automake

make

cmake

gcc

Etract the files in your favorite file manager (konqueror or Dolphin) by right clicking and extracting or in a console run the command

tar -zxvf your-filename.tar.gz

Once you have the files extracted open your favorite file manager (konqueror or Dolphin) browse to the directory the files are in, have a look at the readme file or install file for specific directions to install the file you downloaded

Open a console, and run the commands

./configure

make

su (followed by root password)

make install
