Welcome to It's Your PC Tutorials

The content on this page is aimed at the new openSUSE Linux user. These are Flash animated tutorials. The files are large and if the site is busy they may take time to load, so please be patient. I apologize that the animations couldn't be a little more dial up user friendly.
If you are a dial up user, just be patient, "eventually" the videos will load.

Change YaST Software Default Setting

out

Click the image above to watch the video tutorial.

The default behaviour in the openSUSE software manager is to close after installing or removing software.

This video tutorial shows how to change that behaviour so that the package manager remains open and lets you choose whether to close it or not.

The first thing you need to do is open YaST.

Go to the menu, then to the "Computer" tab, scroll up and select YaST.

Once YaST is open on the right hand side of the window, choose System.

Now in the right hand side of the window choose /etc/sysconfig editor

Now again go the the left hand side of the window and click System.

Now scroll down and click YaST2.

Then click GUI

Finally click PKGMGR_ACTION_AT_EXIT.

Now back to the right side of the window, click the drop down menu and change the setting from "close" to "restart".

The last step of course is to click the "OK" button at the bottom right hand side of the window.

Now as the video shows, when you are done installing software in YaST, the window will stay open instead of just dissapering.
